Description:
The dorsal fin has short spines and long, soft rays. The caudal fin is slightly emarginate. The first soft ray of the pelvic fins developed into a tentacle that extended posteriorly to the rear border of the caudal fin. Body with several dark oblique cross bars that are not always apparent, and an uneven black stripe from the eye to the center of the caudal fin base

Generally, occurs in ponds, lakes and sluggish waters.
