Fully developed beetles possess sleek, oval or football-shaped flattened bodies, typically ranging from 1/8 to 1 inch (3 to 25 mm) in length. While most species showcase brown to black coloring, some exhibit distinct patterns of spots, lines, or mottling on their wing covers (elytra). These beetles are characterized by elongated, hair-like (filiform) antennae. Larvae, although not commonly observed, feature an extended thorax and long legs. Their heads are marked by prominent, sickle-shaped mandibles lacking teeth.
