Strombomonas octocostata is a small, spindle-shaped unicellular organism belonging to the Euglenaceae family. It features an elongated body with a prominent longitudinal groove (sulcus) and measures between 15 to 40 micrometers in length. This flagellate has two flagella originating from a reservoir, a flexible pellicle with longitudinal strips, and chloroplasts for photosynthesis. It possesses a light-sensitive eyespot near the longer flagellum and reproduces via binary fission. Found in freshwater environments, Strombomonas octocostata demonstrates adaptations suited for nutrient-rich habitats.
