Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Ostracoda
Order: Podocopida
Family: Cyprididae
Description:
The valves of this organism have margins with pore canals, and the maxillary spine bears teeth. The natatory setae extend up to the tips of the terminal claws. All furcal rami are straight except for one curved ramus, which is armed with a row of stout, subequal teeth. The claws also have teeth, and the antennae are biramous, with the third segment terminating in stout claws adorned with short setae. The second leg has segments and long, pointed setae, along with numerous small setae. One furcal ramus is smooth, while the other is heavily armed with teeth. The dorsal seta of the furca is long and normal, and the claws are armed with teeth. The masticatory process of the maxilla has four segments, each bearing two or three spine-like setae. Regarding its life cycle, the eggs typically hatch within a few days to several months. The liberated larva is a shelled nauplius with three pairs of appendages: antennules, antennae, and mandibles. The life history consists of eight moults and eight additional instars, with the adult representing the ninth instar. With each successive moult, more appendages and structural complexity develop. For instance, the caudal rami first appear as minute bristles at the fourth instar, and the copulatory organ emerges in the eighth instar. The usual lifespan ranges from several weeks to 7 or 8 months, depending on the species and environmental conditions.
