Description:
Scutogyrus longicornis is distinguished by a dorsal transverse bar that is laterally enlarged at the center, featuring two very long auricles that are hollow at the base. Additionally, it has an arched, rigid ventral transverse bar that supports a large, thin oval plate with fan-shaped median thickenings.It has an elongated, cylindrical body. It possesses four eyespots and a well-developed pharynx located at the anterior end. The head organ is not prominently marked.The haptor is disc-like, equipped with two pairs of anchors and two dissimilar bars that articulate with each other.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
It is an obligate parasite that infects freshwater fish species. It has also been found in the exotic fish, Tilapia. The parasite reaches maturity in the gill filaments of its host. In Bangladesh, it was recorded from freshwater Tilapia.
