This perennial sedge forms tufted stems that are light green and subterete. The leaves lack blades, with brownish sheaths. Its inflorescence is pseudolateral and capitate, with oblong to ovoid-oblong spikelets that are straw-colored and densely many-flowered. Glumes are ovate-oval and pale brown, while nutlets are broadly obovate, unequally biconvex, and contracted at the base, with a rounded to mucronate apex, appearing shiny dark brown.
