Description:
The shell is extremely thin, ovate, and delicate, exhibiting a slender and narrow form with a blunt apex. The outer lip is significantly expanded and has a convex outline, while the spire is short and acuminate. The last whorl is notably inflated. The shell typically comprises 4 to 6 whorls. The tentacles are flattened and triangular in shape. The exterior color is light brown, and both the peristome (the outer edge of the aperture) and the inside of the shell share this hue. In terms of size, the adult shell measures approximately 19 mm in length, 8 mm in width, with an aperture length of 13 mm and an aperture width of 6 mm. The peristome has a length ranging between 10-15 mm and a width of 4-7 mm.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Found in all types of freshwater bodies in which molluscs are able to live (Preston, 1915). Prefers stagnant waterbodies and irrigated paddy fields. Dominant in the habitats containing water from household drainage. It attaches itself to floating leaves, sticks, etc and mostly remains close to the water’s edge. Natural vegetation is a prerequisite for the occurrence of the species. Common all over Bangladesh.
