Description:
This is a relatively large, spherical bacterium typically measuring between 1.5 to 3.5 μm in diameter. It usually forms groups of four cells that adhere together to create a tetrad structure. These bacteria can be readily cultured and do not exhibit pathogenic properties. When grown under controlled conditions, they can also adopt dimer, tetramer, and occasionally more complex multimer configurations.

They are associated with freshwater habitats.
