The body is elongated, flattened, and depressed anteriorly, transitioning to cylindrical and compressed posteriorly. The head is extremely depressed and spatulate. The mouth is small and inferior.The snout and much of the head are covered with pores. The gill-opening is narrow, with the membrane broadly united with the isthmus. The species lacks barbels, and the lips are fleshy. The dorsal origin is slightly closer to the snout tip than to the caudal base. The pectorals and pelvics are placed horizontally, with 6-7 outer rays of the pectorals and 2 outer rays of the pelvics being unbranched. The lateral series has 30-34 scales. The body is reddish-brown with irregular black blotches along the middle of the sides.
