Description:
They transition from a linear to a fusiform shape. The cells in chains overlap only minimally. When viewed from the valve, they appear fusiform and have weak silicification. The fibulae and central nodules are easily distinguishable on the valves. The interstriae are barely noticeable. They have the capability for both sexual and asexual reproduction.

These algae primarily inhabit freshwater environments.
