Description:
Phormidium favosum is a colonial cyanobacterium found in freshwater environments. It forms spherical or ovoid colonies composed of radially arranged, ovoid to broadly rounded cells. These cells have a periplast covered with siliceous scales bearing minute spines and contain two lateral chromatophores. Reproduction occurs through both individual longitudinal division and colony bipartition. This species produces spherical cysts as part of its life cycle.
