A dark, duck-like waterbird with blue-green eyes, a rounded head, and a sloping forehead, distinguished by its long, slender bill with a sharp hook at the tip. Adult Indian Cormorants are black, while immatures are brownish with white underparts. Like all cormorants, this bird is often seen swimming with its body low in the water, holding its head and neck upright, and diving underwater to catch fish. It frequently perches upright on rocks to dry its wings. Typically found in small groups fishing together in inland waters, the Indian Cormorant can be recognized by its slightly larger head, which is rounded compared to the flat head of the Little Cormorant. It is also smaller and slimmer than the Great Cormorant.
