The aperture of the organism is located at the terminal end and appears circular or oval when viewed orally. It may have a short or long tail made up of scales. The shell itself can take on various shapes such as ovoid, elliptical, or pyriform, with a highly variable outline. In cross-section, the organism appears circular, with a circular aperture bordered by a chitinoid collar that is often short and jagged. The scales surrounding the aperture are typically circular, though they may sometimes be elliptical, and they vary in size, with smaller scales more common near the tail. The organism typically contains a single nucleus and may have one, two, or more contractile vacuoles. Its habitat includes aquatic vegetation and submerged mosses, and its size ranges from 55 to 70 micrometers.
