The carapace, oval and depressed, may or may not have a vertebral keel. It is brownish-olive with a dark brown vertebral stripe. The plastron is truncated at the front and notched at the back. The snout projects beyond the lower jaw, and the upper jaw is serrated with a broad alveolar surface. The plastron is yellow, possibly with dark blotches on each scute. Males, smaller than females, have longer and thicker-based tails.
