Description:
It has semi-compressed body. Dorsal fin has 7 soft rays, and its anal fin has 22 soft rays. The fins on its sides (pectoral fins) each have 12 rays, and pelvic fins have 6 rays. Body isn’t too deep or too shallow. The upper edge of its jaw is curved, and its upper lip is a bit smaller than its lower lip. The tail (caudal) fin is truncated. Snout is dark black, while its gill cover (operculum) and belly are a bluish silver. The upper part of its body is a light greenish yellow.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Usually occurs near the coast but may live in fresh water as well as in brackish habitats
