Description:
Notonecta maculata, belonging to the order Hemiptera, is a species of small, light brown insects. They exhibit several dark markings on both their wings and body, accompanied by large reddish eyes. Their hind legs are specially adapted to have an oar-shaped structure, facilitating swimming in water. In their adult stage, these insects can reach a length of up to 2 centimeters. One distinctive feature that sets Notonecta maculata apart from other species within the Notonecta genus is the presence of mottled brick-colored forewings.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Notonecta maculata generally live in small freshwater ponds, but can also be found in storm water retention ponds, lakes, swamps, and rivers, as long as the water they are in is freshwater.
