Fully grown adults are diminutive, measuring less than 2.5 cm in length. They possess small, translucent, or amber-tinged wings that are reduced in size, resulting in an incomplete anal loop and a relatively small forewing triangle. In males, the initial blackish coloration transforms into a powdery blue hue after about a week, accompanied by an expanded abdomen. Lighter bands appear on the posterior margin of each abdominal segment. On the other hand, females mimic the appearance of wasps, displaying a combination of black and yellow mottling. Their abdomen is black with yellow banding, which becomes progressively narrower toward the posterior end of each segment.
