Description:
The fish has an elongated and compressed body with a depressed head and large gill openings. The mouth is terminal with the upper jaw being longer. The dorsal fin is shorter than the head, and the adipose fin is larger than the anal fin. The caudal fin is deeply forked with equal lobes. It has four pairs of barbels and ten branchiostegal rays. The body is dark above and lighter brown below, with a narrow dark band along the lateral line and a round black spot at the middle of the caudal peduncle. Fin formula: D. I/7; P1. Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Abundant in the estuaries and tidal rivers of Bangladesh as well as in the Bay of Bengal. Adults hide under rocks and boulders in swift-flowing clear water hill streams.
