The fish has an elongated and compressed body with a depressed head and large gill openings. The mouth is terminal with the upper jaw being longer. The dorsal fin is shorter than the head, and the adipose fin is larger than the anal fin. The caudal fin is deeply forked with equal lobes. It has four pairs of barbels and ten branchiostegal rays.
