Description:
This green algae consists of unbranched filaments with bulbous or barrel-shaped cells. Each cell typically contains a single, densely arranged net-like chloroplast that usually occupies the entire cell without a pyrenoid. Under favorable lighting conditions, H-shaped wall sections are observable in the filament. Additionally, darkened, brown bands can be seen between adjacent cells.

These algae primarily inhabit freshwater environments.
