Description:
The carapace is slightly flattened, approximately 1.34 times broader than its length. The epigastric cristae are evident, with the epigastric and postorbital cristae united on both sides. The postorbital cristae are sharp, distinct, and run parallel to the frontal margin. The frontal region is deflexed and relatively wide. The external orbital tooth is prominent, and there is a noticeable epibranchial tooth. The frontal margin is bilobed, and the frontal median triangle is not fully formed. The cervical groove is well-developed, and the mesogastric furrow is very distinct, deep, and slightly bifurcated toward the posterior end. The anterolateral and posterolateral regions are rugose. The eyes are smaller than the orbital floor, and the eyestalk is short. The third maxilliped features an ischium that is subrectangular, longer than it is broad, with a distinct narrow medial groove. The merus is pentagonal, broader than it is long, and the exopod is slender, longer than the ischium, reaching the base of the merus and having a long flagellum . The epistome has slightly sinuous lateral margins, and the medial lobe is triangular.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Suitable habitats include freshwater rivers and streams. Therefore, it is not surprising that M. edentula occurs in eastern Bangladesh, near its known distribution range and in Mymensingh.
