Description:
Macrospermum volzii is a cylindrical desmid found in freshwater environments. It has elongated cells, typically curved or twisted, ranging from 200 to 500 micrometers in length. Each cell has a cellulose cell wall and multiple disk-shaped chloroplasts responsible for photosynthesis. Reproduction primarily occurs through binary fission. Macrospermum volzii is bilaterally symmetric with a central nucleus and is commonly found attached to submerged vegetation or sediment in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Their natural habitat traditionally includes freshwater environments, although they have also been observed in water sources with elevated salinity levels.
