Description:
The rostrum of this species is characterized by a distinct elevated basal crest, typically very long or with a clear naked portion in the distal half of the upper margin. It usually bears 12 to 13 upper teeth and 8 to 9 lower teeth. The tip of the telson extends beyond the tip of the longer posterior spines. In adult males, the carpus of the second pereiopod is either as long as, slightly longer, or slightly shorter than the chela, and the fingers of that leg are slightly less than half as long as the palm. The body color is flesh-colored, with or without dark brown dots. Large blotches of yellowish and brownish coloration are present on the lateral sides of abdominal segments at the union of adjoining segments. The flagellae are brownish-red in 2/3 of the distal part. The eggs are yellowish in color and are produced in enormous numbers. The maximum body length is 104 mm for males and 117 mm for females.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Freshwater, ponds, rivers, beels and stream. Macrobrachium villosimanus is available in the tidal rivers of Bangladesh, Meghna, Titas, Pagla, Karnaphuli, Halda Sangu Rivers and those in Patuakhali including Sundarbans estuary.
