Description:
The rostrum of this species is notably long, adorned with 7 to 11 dorsal teeth, including 1 or 2 postorbital teeth, and 4 to 8 ventral teeth. The upper margin exhibits a gap between a proximal series of 6 to 9 teeth and a distal 1 or 2 subterminal teeth, sometimes interrupted by 1 or 2 teeth. The rostrum is equal to or slightly extends beyond the antennal scale, tilting upwards distally, with a basal crest that is not highly elevated. The palm of the second leg is not swollen, and the fingers are shorter than the palm. The second chelipeds are slender, equal to or 1/3 longer than the body length, with the chela shorter than the carpus. The second pleopod of the male has a non-hairy, slender appendix masculina that reaches the tip of the endopod. In terms of coloration, the body is flesh-colored with sparsely distributed brown pigments on the rostrum, carapace, and body. Some specimens may have a greyish band on the body, extending to the telson and tail fin. The inner flagellae of the antennule are reddish-brown. The maximum total length is 80 mm for males and 75 mm for females.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Macrobrachium lamarrei is abundant in the Sundarbans, Greater Rajshahi, Greater Sylhet region, and in the River Titas river. The species is available in freshwater and brackishwater with sandy-muddy bottom.
