Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Malacostraca
Order: Decapoda
Family: Palaemonidae
Description:
The rostrum in this species is rather long, reaching nearly up to or beyond the distal end of the antennal scale. The dorsal margin is armed with 9 to 13 teeth, usually placed at regular intervals, with the posterior 2 or 3 positioned behind the orbital margin. The ventral margin is armed with 4 to 7, usually 5 teeth. The hepatic spine is on a horizontal line through the antennal spine, and the branchiostegal suture does not extend posteriorly beyond the hepatic spine. The telson has a posterior apex that does not overreach the posterolateral spines. In adult males, the carapace is rough due to the presence of minute spinules. The second pair of pereiopods is long and strong, with the fingers, but not the other parts, covered by a dense velvety pubescence. There are 1 or 2 enlarged proximal teeth on the cutting edges of the fingers, while the rest of the edges are entire, and there are no rows of granules at either side of the edges. The carpus is shorter than the propodus and distinctly longer than the merus. In terms of coloration, the species is translucent, marbled, or spotted with greyish, greenish, or reddish hues. The second pair of pereiopods, especially the palms, are marbled with dark brownish coloration. The maximum total length is 98 mm, with males usually being longer.
