Description:
The rostrum of this species is adorned with 12 to 16 dorsal teeth and 2 to 3 ventral teeth. In males, the second chelipeds are considerably stronger than those of females and exhibit unequal lengths. The overall coloration is flesh-colored, with a median pale band extending from the last abdominal segment to the end of the rostrum along the mid-dorsal line. On the initial abdominal segments, this band is divided by an incomplete median greyish streak. The larger chelipeds have a greyish color, and the dorsolateral part of the animal displays greyish markings. In some instances, a few greyish cross bands are observed on the telson, intersecting the longitudinal pale band. The eggs have a yellowish color. The maximum total length reaches 70 mm for males and 62 mm for females.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Fresh and brackish water bodies, paddyfield. This prawn is mainly found in freshwater, coastal rivers, canals and floodplains. Macrobrachium dolichodactylus is available in the rivers Meghna, Naaf, Pagla, Halda, Karnaphuli, Sangu and rivers of Patuakhali as well as in the Muhuri.
