The organism has a body that is more or less ovo-cylindrical in shape, characterized by a rigid pellicle with spiral striations. It often features a short spine-like projection at the posterior end. A stigma may be present, and numerous disc-shaped chromatophores are located at the cell’s margins. Paramylum bodies, typically large and ring-shaped, are laterally positioned and lack pyrenoids. It inhabits freshwater environments. In cross-section, the cell appears ovoid to ellipsoidal with a pointed caudal process, and it is circular. The outer layer (periplast) is rigid and decorated with spiral striae. Numerous disc-shaped chloroplasts are present, and there are usually two large, ring-shaped paramylum bodies.
