Description:
The organism described has a body shape that is roughly ovoid or cylindrical. It possesses a rigid pellicle adorned with spiral striations and often features a short, spiny projection at the posterior end. Occasionally, a stigma is present. Numerous disc-shaped chromatophores are typically located along the cell’s margins. Paramylum bodies, which are large and ring-shaped, are usually positioned laterally within the cell. Unlike some similar organisms, this species does not contain pyrenoids. Lepocinclis acuta is commonly found in freshwater environments.
