Description:
Body is elongated, deep and compressed with slightly oblique mouth. Lateral line complete with 34-36. Pectoral fins wing-like and large. Body color translucent, shining silver to greenish-gray with a violet lustre on caudal peduncle. A deep black, golden-edged blotch at the base of caudal fin. Fins are yellowish. This fish has a tall fin on its back (dorsal fin) with 10 to 11 soft rays. The fin on its underside (anal fin) is long, with 20 to 22 soft rays, of which 17 to 21 have branches.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Inhabits the middle-depth area of streams, ponds and tanks. Occurs in shallow and relatively deep areas of streams, both in still and relatively fast-flowing waters.
