Description:
This fish has a long, slender body. Dorsal profile quite concave. Snout is blunt and extends slightly past its wide mouth. There are four barbels in total, two on its upper jaw (maxillary) and two near its nose (rostral). The lateral line has 41 to 43 small scales. There are 5 rows of scales going across its body between the lateral line and the pelvic fins. The tail fin (caudal fin) is deeply forked. Fin formula: D ii-iii 22-24; A ii 5; P i 15; V i 8. The fish is dark greenish on its back, gradually becoming lighter on its sides (flanks) and abdomen. The center of many of its scales is colored orange-red or reddish, and its iris is also red.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Found in rivers and beels, particularly of the districts of greater Sylhet and Mymensingh.
