This fish has a elongated and laterally compressed body. Its dorsal profile more convex than abdomen. The front of its head (snout) is blunt rather than pointed. There are two small maxillary barbels on its upper jaw, but they’re tucked inside a fold of skin around its mouth (labial fold) and not easily seen. The dorsal fin starts halfway between the tip of its snout. The pelvic fins are positioned slightly closer to the tip of the snout than the base of the tail fin (caudal base). The upper half of its body is bluish or darkish, while the lower half is silvery. The gill cover (opercle) is a light orange color.
