Scientific Name: Intranstylum invaginatum Stokes, 1886
Classification:
Kingdom: Chromista
Phylum: Ciliophora
Class: Oligohymenophorea
Order: Peritrichida
Family: Vorticellidae
Description:
These organisms are colonial, with an inverted bell-shaped body supported by a contractile branched stalk. Each branch develops its own short and typically pointed independent myoneme. The significant reduction in myoneme length leads to the contraction of the stalk segment. In certain species, the effective length of the myoneme is increased by fibrils running along the length of the stalk. They are epizooic in nature.
