Description:
Eyes display a bluish-grey hue. The thorax is predominantly black with yellow markings. The collar is adorned with diagonal dorsal spots, and the thorax’s dorsal side features a prominent large yellow central spot. Lateral stripes on the thorax are of a yellowish-green shade. Legs are primarily black, with the first two basal segments exhibiting a yellow color. The forelegs’ inner surface displays a yellow stripe. Wings are transparent, and the wing spot is black. The abdomen is black, marked with yellow, with a dorsal stripe and lateral spot on segments 1 and 2 merging. The basal half of segment 3 is yellow, and segments 4-6 boast large dorsal basal spots. Segments 7 and 8 have the basal half in yellow, with segment 8 featuring a black wing-like projection. In females, the resemblance to males is striking, with more extensive yellow markings. The abdomen is thicker, laterally compressed, and shorter in length.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Almost all types of wetlands including edges of ponds, lakes, reservoirs and sluggish canals/ rivers, except hill streams along dense forests.

Comments:
Breeds both in running and still waters; more frequently in the latter. Pairing takes place over water. Female deposits eggs by quick dipping abdomen over water.
