Larvae exhibit sclerites on the pro-, meso-, and metanota. The mesonotum is entirely covered by two sclerites, separated by an unbranched longitudinal suture. In Hydatophylax sp., the metanotum has only five sclerites. There is a prosternal horn present. The antennae are positioned midway between the eye and the anterior margin of the head. Additionally, fleshy protuberances are found laterally and dorsally on the first abdominal segment.
