Gomphonema longiceps is a diatom species characterized by its wedge-shaped or clavate (club-shaped) cells with a broader headpole and a narrower footpole. The silica cell walls (frustules) have fine, parallel striae and a raphe system for movement. In valve view, the cells appear asymmetrical with rounded ends, while in girdle view, they look narrower and elongated. Gomphonema longiceps plays a key role as a primary producer in aquatic ecosystems and serves as an indicator for water quality and environmental conditions.
