Description:
The fish has an elongated body with a depressed head and anterior portion, while the tail is compressed. It has thick lips and an oblique mouth. Cycloid scales are present on the opercle, and ctenoid scales cover the body. The second dorsal fin is higher than the first. There are 27 ctenoid scales in the lateral series from above the pectoral base to the caudal fin. The pectoral fins are pointed, and the caudal fin is rounded. The upper half of the body is covered with black dots, and the abdomen is transparent, with a black spot at the caudal base.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Inhabits rivers and estuaries. Occurs in slow flowing water and swamps, often in backwaters.
