Females typically possess a single ovary and carry the egg sac near their posterior end. Their mastax lacks branching structures, and the presence of a lorica may vary. Males are generally small and degenerate. The corona, or crown of cilia, is not notably large. The body is shaped like a sac, with a straight anterior end and lacking a lorica. A row of cilia near the head forms a circumapical band, and two red eye spots may be present. Setae on the body can either be smooth or have minute bristles. The unci, or jaw structures, in the mastax are equipped with numerous teeth. There are two appendages near the head attached to the body, which aid in movement. Towards the anterior end, there is typically one spine situated either terminally or subterminally. Posterior setae are typically positioned ventrally away from the terminal point of the organism.
