Its mouth is wide, with the upper jaw being slightly longer than the lower jaw. There are four pairs of barbels. The pectoral spines are comparatively strong and slightly longer than the dorsal spine, which is positioned posteriorly. The pectoral spine is denticulated internally. The caudal fin is forked. The body is silvery gray with a darker back. The bases of the caudal, anal, and pelvic fins are yellowish, and there are three grayish bands on the flanks. The dorsal, pectoral, and caudal fins have dusky tips.
