The size of this sponge species varies, and its body takes the form of irregular thick growths on submerged objects, including tree roots. The megascleres are amphioxea, stout, fusiform, slightly curved, and entirely smooth, with dimensions ranging from 265-370 mm in length and 14-25 mm in width. Microscleres are absent in this species. Gemmoscleres, resembling megascleres but smaller, are more curved and sharply pointed, measuring 145-210 mm in length and 5-8 mm in width. Gemmules are spherical or flattened at the base, relatively large, and numerous in mature sponges. They occur singly throughout the skeletal meshes. The pneumatic layer is well-developed and thick, composed of several layers of regularly arranged polygonal air spaces. Gemmoscleres are embedded tangentially or irregularly within these air spaces. A single aperture is present, surrounded by a crater-like depression in the cellular coat, and it is equipped with a foraminal tubule resembling an inverted bottle. The diameter of this tubule measures between 440-610 mm, and it does not extend beyond the surface of the cellular coat.
