Description:
Dactylogyrus cirrhini is slightly elongated and dorsoventrally flattened, with a smooth cuticle. It has three pairs of head organs and two pairs of eyespots on the head. The muscular pharynx is sub-circular, and the intestinal caeca are fused posteriorly. The single oval testis is located in the posterior half of the body, while the smaller ovary is pretesticular and situated in the mid-body.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
It is specific to its host and an obligate parasite of various cyprinid fishes. It infests the gill filaments of carps and gobiid fishes and is widely distributed in Bangladesh.
