Description:
Dactylogyrus angularis is relatively small in size. It has two eyespots. The intestinal crura merge behind the testis. The prostatic reservoir and seminal vesicle are clearly visible. The marginal hooks are slender, with a well-defined handle and a pivot that includes a projecting rounded “heel” of the hooklet. The anchors are small, with a well-developed inner root and a recurved point. There is only one dorsal bar, slightly V-shaped, with minimal broadening at the lateral ends.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
The species is an obligate parasite of various freshwater fish, including the swamp barb (Puntius sophore). It is found in various regions of Bangladesh as a freshwater gill parasite of cyprinid fishes.
