Description:
This tiny centric diatom boasts cells. Its valves take on a short, drum-like shape. On the circular valve surface, rows of areolae extend from a clear central region. These cells may occasionally feature lengthy chitinous bristles. Each cell contains numerous disc-shaped plastids, and the organism reproduces sexually through male and female gametes.

Most often found in freshwater environments, but can also be found in brackish and marine habitats
