Description:
Abdomen is rounded. Head acute with a lower longer jaw. Dorsal fin short-based, inserted well back on the body. Body elongate, relatively deep and strongly compressed. Lateral line is only slightly recognizable. 28-33 scales in longitudinal series. Body color: Brown or black with a silvery white band, usually interrupted, from the eye to the base of the caudal.
