The surface of Corvospongilla lapidosa lacks spicular projections, presenting a smooth appearance. The sponge forms thin, flat encrustations, and its skeleton is comprised of well-developed spicule fibers that are held together by a sufficient amount of spongin. Oscula are small, with some raised above the body surface. The live sponge has a very hard consistency. The coloration of the sponge varies from black to grey or pale yellow. The megascleres in Corvospongilla lapidosa are slightly curved, blunt, or rounded at both ends, and they are smooth and stout. Their length and width range from 0.22-0.23 mm and 0.01-0.02 mm, respectively. Microscleres, identified as birotulates or gemmoscleres with a cylindrical shaft containing two rotules at both ends, have a smooth shaft and a small number of medium-sized recurved hooks at the terminal. Their length ranges from 0.22-0.23 mm, and the diameter of rotules ranges from 8-11 µm.
