The fish has an elongated, laterally compressed body with a keeled belly featuring 11+7 scutes and 19-21 lower gillrakers. Its anal fin ends with the last two rays forming a separate finlet. It has 40-43 scales in its lateral series and a forked caudal fin, with the lower lobe being slightly longer. The body is brownish in color with a faint lateral band running along its length. The caudal fin has faint edges and a subtle black spot at its base.
