Description:
Corbicula striatella is a bivalve with a thick shell, ranging in size from 22.7 to 42.3mm in its largest dimension. The shell is swollen and has a triangular ovate to ovate shape, with a curved dorsal margin. The umbones are prominent. In young individuals, the periostracum is a shiny lemon yellow, gradually darkening towards a brownish hue in fully grown specimens. The striae on the shell are regular, concentric, and raised to form ridges. A slight sinus trace is present in the pallial line. The muscle scars inside the shell are fairly well developed.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
These molluscs are found in sandy and muddy bottom of the river of the concerned area. Abundant in Brahmon baria, Chittagong, Comilla, Habiganj, Maulvibazar, Sylhet, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Rangamati.Corbicula striatella is a ubiquitous bivalve found in rivers, streams and lakes. Corbicula striatella is mostly confined to freshwater habitat in lowlands up to around 250 m a.s.l. It prefers substratum with fine gravel, sand or mud.
