Description:
The lorica of this organism consists of two laterally compressed plates, with a frontal head hood. It is open along the anterior, ventral, and posterior margins, with a short terminal foot segment and long, tapering toes. This species is small in size. The organism lacks any foot joint longer than its toes. Its head features a semicircular shield dorsal to the corona, which can retract within the lorica. It is commonly found in littoral habitats, where it grazes over plants and scrapes up small organisms using its head shield. Within this genus, the lorica appears flattened laterally, resembling a mussel shape in side view. The head carries a retractable semi-circular shield above the corona. The foot typically comprises three or four segments and two slender toes, which are usually longer than the foot itself. Additionally, there are typically two lateral eyes present. The mastax possesses malleate trophi.
