D1 I/13; D2 absent; P1VI/10; P 27; A 98. Color of back brown, anks, silvery, with distinctive longitudinal rows of golden or pearly spots on lower part. Body elongate, tapering evenly to very slender tail. Belly rather rounded. Snout projecting, pointed. Maxilla (upper jaw) tip pointed. A small, sharp, spine before dorsal origin. Anal very long.

Found in estuaries and the Bay of Bengal.
