Description:
This unicellular desmid features elongated cells that taper at both ends. They typically exhibit a crescent-shaped form, although straight shapes are infrequent. The cell wall may appear smooth or may be adorned with thin longitudinal striae or large pores. Each cell contains two chloroplasts housing numerous pyrenoids. Asexual reproduction occurs through binary fission, while sexual reproduction involves conjugation to produce a hypnozoite.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Common in lakes, ponds, and slow-flowing streams.
