The Chlorocypha species is distinguishable by several features: (1) it possesses a head and thorax that are markedly yellow in contrast, (2) exhibits wings stained yellow, particularly at their bases, (3) showcases entirely black tibiae with some light pruinosity, instead of having yellow or white anterior streaks, and (4) displays a reddish-orange abdomen with relatively continuous black markings on S 2 between the basal and apical borders. Additionally, S 3–5 and sometimes S 6 each have an apical black bar, and yellow lateral carinae are present on S 4–8. In comparison, C. luminosa has a deeper yellow tone that is more uniform across the body and wings, C. neptunus features an especially extensive black abdomen, and C. pyriformosa tends to become almost red on the abdomen and black on the thorax.
