Description:
Body is cylindrical with a large depressed head of large cephalic shields. It has a large mouth of the gape that extends well beyond the eyes. The body and head covered with cycloid scales but no spine in fins. Entire body is reddish brown with an olive green dorsal part. There are vague dull blue bars on the dorsal side. Ventral side is sometimes have a few white bars. Eyes are bright red. Fins are bluish, transparent with a red streak pattern. Juveniles and females have a distinct eye spot on the posterior end of the dorsal fin.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Abundant in ponds, ditches, beels and swamps.
